Alicia Keys


Alicia Augello Cook (born January 25, 1981), better known by her stage name Alicia Keys, is an American recording artist, musician and actress. She was raised by a single mother in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan in New York City. At age seven, Keys began to play classical music on the piano. She attended Professional Performing Arts School and graduated at 16 as valedictorian. She later attended Columbia University before dropping out to pursue her music career. Keys released her debut album with J Records, having had previous record deals first with Columbia and then Arista Records.

Keys' debut album, Songs in A Minor, was a commercial success, selling over 12 million copies worldwide. She became the best-selling new artist and best-selling R&B artist of 2001. The album earned Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Fallin'". Her second studio album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, was released in 2003 and was also another success worldwide, selling eight million copies. The album garnered her an additional four Grammy Awards in 2005. Later that year, she released her first live album, Unplugged, which debuted at number one in the United States. She became the first female to have an MTV Unplugged album to debut at number one and the highest since Nirvana in 1994.

Keys made guest appearances on several television series in the following years, beginning with Charmed. She made her film debut in Smokin' Aces and went on to appear in The Nanny Diaries in 2007. Her third studio album, As I Am, was released in the same year and sold six million copies worldwide, earning Keys an additional three Grammy Awards. The following year, she appeared in The Secret Life of Bees, which earned her a nomination at the NAACP Image Awards. She released her fourth album, The Element of Freedom, in December 2009, which became Keys' first chart-topping album in the United Kingdom. Throughout her career, Keys has won numerous awards and has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Billboard magazine named her the top R&B artist of the 2000–2009 decade, establishing herself as one of the best-selling artists of her time. In 2010, VH1 included Keys on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time

Guns N' Roses (sometimes abbreviated as GN'R or GnR) is an American hard rock band. The band formed in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California in 1985. Led by frontman and co-founder Axl Rose (born William Bruce Rose, Jr.), the band has released six studio albums, three EPs, and one live album while going through numerous line-up changes and controversies since its formation.

The band has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide,[6] including shipments of 43.5 million in the United States.[7] The band's 1987 major label debut album, Appetite for Destruction, has sold in excess of 28 million copies worldwide and reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and is also the highest selling debut album of all time both in the US and worldwide. In addition, the album charted three Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Sweet Child o' Mine" which reached No. 1.[8] The 1991 albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II debuted on the two highest spots on the Billboard 200 and have sold a combined 14 million copies in the United States alone and 35 million worldwide. After over a decade of work, the band released their follow-up album, Chinese Democracy.

The current lineup comprises lead vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarists Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and DJ Ashba, rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer.

Guns N' Roses' mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s years have been described by individuals in the music industry as the period in which "they brought forth a hedonistic rebelliousness and revived the punk attitude-driven hard rock scene, reminiscent of the early Rolling Stones."[9]

Mariah Carey


Mariah Carey (born in New York, March 27, 1970, age 40 years) is a singer, writer and songwriter, producer and occasional actress from the United States. He made his debut recording in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and became the first musician to have his first five singles top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. After marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of hit song set with his position as Columbia's highest selling artist. According to Billboard magazine, she is the most successful artists in the 1990s in the United States.

Carey has sold more than 200 million albums, singles and videos around the world. [7] [8] [9] He was dubbed the millennium's best-selling female pop artist at the World Music Awards in 2000. [10] According to the Recording Industry Association of America, he is the third best-selling female artist and sixteenth overall recording artist with sales of more than 62.5 million albums in the United States. [11] He was also classified as the best selling female artist of the U.S. Nielsen SoundScan era (third best-selling artists as a whole). [12] He has the most number one singles for a solo artist in the United States (eighteen; second artist overall behind The Beatles). [13] In 2008, Billboard magazine ranks Carey at number six on "The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists", making Carey the second most successful female artist after Madonna, in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. [14] In addition to her commercial accomplishments, Carey has earned five Grammy Awards from nearly 40 nominations he received (the second largest category of women after Aretha Fraklin), and the famous vocal range, vocal strength, and the melismatic style of singing that has berhsail he popularized, and the use of techniques whistle register (the highest reach of human voice above falsetto).

Justin Bieber's Beginnings as a Singer:


Justin Bieber was born March 14, 1994 and grew up in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. At the age of 12 he entered a local singing competition against others who had significantly more experience and the benefit of vocal coaches. Justin Bieber came in second place. To share his success and talent with family members, he began posting videos of his performances on YouTube. Visitors to the site began subscribing to Justin Bieber's videos, and he ended up with over 10 million views of his performances.

Discovered by Future Manager:

When Justin Bieber was just 13, his future manager Scooter Braun, a former marketing executive for So So Def, discovered him. Just seven months after Bieber began uploading the videos to YouTube, he was flown to Atlanta to meet superstar R&B singer Usher. He also ended up meeting with Justin Timberlake who was another star with an interest in signing Justin Bieber to a contract.
Major Label Contract:

In October 2008 Justin Bieber took the deal offered by Usher and signed to Island Records. He says that it was simply the best deal and Usher was backed up by label exec L.A. Reid. Justin Bieber headed into the studio to begin recording his debut album My World with backup vocals from Usher on at least one track.
